Photoshop project
For my photoshop project I choose to do a series of fake magazine covers. Despite the magazine covers being fake, I aimed for them to look as realistic as possible so as to make them look more professional. The image depicted here is my meme portion of the project. This one was especially tough because putting a meme on the cover of a magazine was difficult so I tried to frame it as a hit news story that is trying to make use of popular culture to garner attention.
Admittedly, since my primary focus is emulation, my creative process is comprised of trying to look like a real Newsweek magazine cover. To accomplish this, I looked at plenty of different Newsweek covers and then tried to apply techniques and aspects of a real Newsweek cover onto mine. I took some liberties though as usually Newsweek depicts a person on their cover. I tried to explain this by adding the 'Special Edition' headliner and College Rankings--which further explains why the cover depicts UCSB.
I also specifically choose yellow as a direct contrast to red to highlight the breaking stories and interesting tidbits that were to be crucial to the Newsweek magazine selling copies.
Ultimately, I feel I was pretty successful at accomplishing my goals that I set before I had started this part of the project.

That's some sweet photoshop skills you got there; creating your own magazine cover. It looks pretty legit. But I do have a question on the second image on that magazine; does that show what's it like when UCSB is raining? I notice that the same picture you used on Feb 1 was on Feb 3 but Feb 2 was in a completely different place. For me personally, it would probably be more consistent if the 2nd image was the same image as 1 and 3 but added rain and darker weather. Of course, that's the first impression I get when I look at your image. Also I notice where you said "effect our thinking" the correct term to use was "affect" though i think that change is kinda late now :( since we already turned in our photoshop project. But hey, we just added each other today so can't blame anyone. Also, I kinda felt uncomfortable of how you portrayed UCSB as a party school with playboy (even though UCSB is known for the parties); you could have also included some credibility of UCSB since it is one of the top public research facility that tops off UCLA and Berkley in ranking. Of course for me personally, I'd be proud of the school I go to and try to give it as much credibility as possible so other people from other schools will not look down on you. I know this because I have a lot of friends that look down on me because of the "famous party school" title of UCSB.
